Goicoechea, Director of the Nevada Department of Agriculture, to address the ongoing egg supply chain challenges impacting Nevada families and businesses.

Diverse Festivities and Traditions Fuel Holiday Celebrations Across the State

Nevada expects to spend $365.0 million on Easter, with the average person spending $177.06, the third highest on record. Major expenditures include $118.6 million on food and $57.9 million on clothing. Gifts and candy will see $56.0 million and $51.1 million spent respectively. Additional funds go to flowers, decorations, and greeting cards. Popular activities include cooking, socializing, and attending church. Shoppers prefer discount stores, with significant numbers also shopping online and at department stores.

Overall Participation at Record Level

Nevada anticipates record St. Patrick's Day spending at $70.1 million, with 62% of U.S. consumers participating, spending an average of $44.40. This marks increases in both participation and expenditure from last year. Celebrations include wearing green, dining out, and attending parties. Shopping trends show consumers preferring grocery stores and discount outlets, while many also plan to spend at bars, department stores, and online. This year's spending is expected to surpass last year's $66.8 million.

Overall Participation Up Slightly from 2023

Nevada expects over $250 million in Valentine's Day spending by 53% of adults, contributing to a national total of $25.8 billion. Average spending is projected at $185.81, down 3.6% from last year. Popular gifts include candy, cards, and flowers, with the highest spending on significant others at $101.84 each. Online and department stores are the top shopping destinations, with other popular choices being discount stores, florists, and specialty shops.

Record 200.4 million Americans Hit Stores in Nationwide Shopping Spree

During Thanksgiving and Cyber Monday, Nevada saw $609.0 million in sales with 1.9 million shoppers, as part of 200.4 million nationwide. Average spend was $321.41. While in-store shopping dipped slightly, online purchases grew. Promotions drove 55% of sales. Approximately 85% began their holiday shopping by Thanksgiving, with the NRF projecting a 3-4% increase in national holiday spending. Cyber Week online sales reached $38.1 billion, a significant increase from the previous year.

Spending on New Graduates to Reach $6.4 Billion Nationally in 2023

RAN projections are based on a recent survey by the National Retail Federation (NRF), which estimated that the average consumer across the country plans to spend an average of $116.19 on graduation gifts this year, which will add up to a record $6.4 billion in spending nationwide. Over one-third (36.0 percent) of respondents reported they would be celebrating a graduation this year, the highest participation since 2017.

According to estimates from the Retail Association of Nevada (RAN), Nevadans are projected to spend $388.4 million celebrating Easter this year. The spending estimates are based on a recent survey by the National Retail Federation (NRF), which found that 81.0 percent of Americans nationwide plan to celebrate the holiday this year. Nationwide, total spending is expected to reach $24.0 billion, another historic high and 15.4 percent higher than the $20.8 billion projected for Easter 2022.

Spending Levels Back in Line with Pre-Pandemic Period

In preparation for the Super Bowl, Nevadans are projected to spend nearly $160 million on televisions, furniture, team apparel and food, RAN estimates. The estimates are based on a recent survey by the National Retail Federation (NRF), which found that 192.0 million Americans plan to watch the Super Bowl this year. Viewers plan to spend an average of $85.36 on items to enhance the celebration, an increase of 8.2 percent from the $78.92 reported last year.
